The Question of “Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
I’m passionate about many things in life, especially business and entrepreneurship.
I was raised with the motto’s of “Always tell the truth and you never have to lie,” and “When you always tell the truth you never need to remember the lie you told to that person.”
These motto’s were instilled in me from an early age and I’ve always carried them forth, in life and in business.
Stating the above, if there is one thing in life that I truly detest it’s dishonesty, especially when money is involved!
My wife is my best friend in the world and as best friends we talk and tell each other everything.
It’s no secret that I not only want but need to go into business for myself and she has always been supportive in my quest but is amused by my need to blog about my research.
The other night we were watching television in my man cave when she asked, “Have you been blogging recently?”
I smiled, looked at her and replied, “I’m blogging more now than ever.”
She smiled, shook her head and said, “Let me guess, business stuff.”
“Of course business stuff!” I exclaimed.
“How many opportunities are out there?” she asked innocently.
“I have no clue but it seems to be never ending,” I admitted.
“Anything worthwhile?” she asked.
“Not so much, mostly scams” I replied with defeat.
“Scams? There can’t be that many out there in this day and age” she said to me.
“For every decent and viable business opportunity there seem to be hundreds to wade through,” I responded.
“Why? Why do business opportunity scams continue to thrive?” she asked.
One simple question led to a long and passionate tirade about why business opportunity scams continue to thrive.
Take the following with a grain of salt, as humor or as an ally in your plight but I’m going to write all about why business opportunity scams continue to thrive in no particular order.
For this article on “Why do business opportunity scams continue to thrive?” I will pose a question and answer each question with the pitch.
1. Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
Reason #1 – Selling “The Pain.”
What is the “The Pain?”
Dragging your tired and weary body back to work on a Monday morning after a fantastic or not so fantastic weekend trying to figure out how to get to “hump day.”
“Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life,” is a famous saying yet most of us don’t do what we love.
We do what we must do to meet our financial responsibilities of housing, food, clothing, transportation, bills and hopefully entertainment.
We often ask ourselves, “How did I get here?”
The Sales Pitch #1 – “Ease Your Pain.”
“I once dragged my tired and weary body out of bed to a job I hated but needed to pay the bills! That was until I became too fed up to do that any longer! I knew I needed to something different.”
2. Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
Reason #2 – Selling “Understanding.”
Professional scammers have made selling “understanding” an art form.
I believe it’s human nature to want associate ourselves with those who we feel are similar to us. For example, if you’re into physical fitness you probably have a group of friends or even one friend who also enjoys physical fitness.
Business opportunity scammers attempt to align themselves with you.
The Sales Pitch #2 – “I Understand.”
“I understand that change can be scary. I was scared out of my mind when I realized that I needed a change. I was once like you.
“I worked a job where I was overworked, underappreciated and worst of all, underpaid. I was tired of living a check to check lifestyle and I know you are too.”
3. Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
Reason #3 – Selling “Success.”
Life is rather simple when you break it down to the essentials of food, shelter and clothing.
However, I’ll admit that I am one of those people who never seem to be satisfied.
It may be easy for some to say to themselves, “I have a great family, a roof over my head, plenty of food and clothes in my closet even though I wish I had more.”
More is normally a nicer place to live, a better car to drive, nicer clothes to wear and having what seems to be the elusive to many, disposable income.
The Sales Pitch #3 – “Look at How Successful I Am.”
These is normally when you’re hit with images of luxury cars or exotic sports cars.
A picture of a large beautiful home complete with in ground swimming pool.
Images of nice clothes, luxury watches and images of vacations and smiling faces of the scammer and his family.
4. Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
Reason #3 – Selling “Value.”
I know, as you do too, no matter the business opportunity there is going to be a cost associated with that business opportunity.
What is the business opportunity, what is the cost and what do I get for the cost?
At this point the business opportunity scammer is setting us up for the close.
The Sales Pitch #4 – “Look at the Value!”
“Not only am I going to give you my step by step process on how I arrived at where you want to arrive I’m practically giving it away.
This is what you’ll get:
- My sales funnel template – $1,200 Value!
- Images to use on the sales funnel template – $500 Value!
- Show you how to write content for the sales funnel – $2,500 Value!
- Email automated response templates – $700 Value!
- One on One Training session – $5,000 Value!
- Lifetime Support – Priceless!
If I were to provide you with each of my proven methods individually that’s a $9,900 value combined with lifetime support the value can’t be measured.
I’m going to give you the blueprint to change your life for only $595!”
5. Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
Reason #5 – Selling “The Price.”
It’s human nature to want to get the best possible deal. Whether we’re attempting to purchase a home, a car or practically any product or service we want to get what we want at the best possible price.
The business opportunity scammer knows this which is why the business opportunity scammer will provide “values” and then provide “the price” which seems to be a great deal.
“$9,900 value for only $595?!”
The Sales Pitch #5 – “Why This is a Great Deal!”
“I once dragged my tired and weary body out of bed to a job I hated but needed to pay the bills! That was until I became too fed up to do that any longer!
I knew I needed to something different.
I understand that change can be scary.
I was scared out of my mind when I realized that I needed a change.
I was once like you.
I worked a job where I was overworked, underappreciated and worst of all, underpaid. I was tired of living a check to check lifestyle and I know you are too.
I could easily sell each of my proven methods for $9,900.
Throw in lifetime support and this deals value is off the charts!
I’m going to provide you with my proven and successful blueprint to success for only $595.
Why am I doing this?
I can easily continue to do what I do and life happily ever after.
However, knowing that there are people out there who are where I used to be and I need to help.
If you’re willing to work hard, are teachable and want to succeed I here to help you.
However, my proven and successful blueprint is so valuable that I’m only making it available to 500 students.
Will you be 1 of the 500 or continue to want change and do nothing about it?!
Why Do Business Opportunity Scams Continue to Thrive?”
The question remains,” Why do business opportunity scams continue to thrive?”
I believe the answer to this question is psychology.
Business opportunity scammers use a proven step my step psychological sales process day after day, month after month and year after year.
The names change but the business opportunity scams continue to thrive.
Many of us spend most of our time at work and are unhappy with what we do for a living.
We want to do something else, anything else but we don’t know what that something is.
Business opportunity scammers know this and prey on us by addressing our “something” with “their thing.”
As time continues the business opportunity scam appears to look like less of a scam and more of an actual business opportunity making it much harder not to fall victim.
As time continues the costs of these business opportunity scams continue to increase in price.
It’s Lucrative to be a Business Opportunity Scammer
Using my example where a business opportunity scammer is selling 500 people at $595 equates to $297,500 if the business opportunity scammer only sells 500 people.
How would we know if the business opportunity scammer only sells to 500 people?
The unfortunate answer is that we wouldn’t.
If the business opportunity scammer is able to sell 1,000 people that would equate to $595,000.
2,000 sales? Over $1.1 million.
Why Are Business Opportunity Scams Not Illegal?
My wife asked me the question of “How are business opportunity scams not illegal?
The simple answer is that the “scam” is selling a product or service that is no longer viable.
However the person selling the no longer viable product or service is not doing anything illegal.
The person is not “guaranteeing” anything other than selling you information or product and showing you how they once sold that product or service.
A disclaimer of, “You must follow the system step by step. The results of the system are what I achieved with over 5 years of experience. As such, the results are not typical. As with any business there is risk and no business is guaranteed to become successful,” will normally deflect illegality.
It’s difficult to wade through all the illegitimate business opportunities.
I’ve been searching for years and know that legitimate business opportunities are far and few between but I continue to search.
