How to Become a Blogger

Becoming a blogger is not the most difficult thing to do in the world but the most important question you need to ask yourself is why do you want to become a blogger?

If you want to become a blogger with the sole intention of making money I have news for you, making money from blogging isn’t the easiest thing to do in the world.

How Much Money do Bloggers Make?

As you can see from the above pie chart 80% of bloggers surveyed earn less than $1,000 per month. Don’t get me wrong as there are many people in the world that earn a full time income from blogging but they are far and few between.

I didn’t state the above to discourage anyone from becoming a blogger but rather to provide a realistic expectation of how much money one can earn. Truth to be told, the sky is the limit when it comes to becoming a blogger.

Write About What You’re Passionate About

“Write about something you love and you’ll never work.”

I love the above statement because I find it to be true. When I started this blog in 2014 I had no intention of making money. I understood that when I created this blog I was entering into a highly competitive online industry and truth be told had no idea if I could get the blog to rank well for my blog posts.

Why I Created This Blog?

I was once a self employed mortgage broker. When I opened my doors, in early 2006, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. I had a nice office that was close to my residence, was partners with a long time friend and coworker and felt that all my time in the industry had finally paid off.

I didn’t even make my two year anniversary. I almost lost everything during the global financial crisis of 2007-2008. I had no choice but to file for bankruptcy. From one of the happiest moments of my life to one of the worst moments of my life in less than 24 months. I had no idea how I was ever going to recover financially or even if I would be able to.

To state I was devastated would be an understatement but I was thankfully able to get myself back on track. I was back to where I needed to be financially and began to look into various online business opportunities, brick and mortar businesses and products that would allow me to once again become self employed.

However, as I researched each opportunity, business and product I became greatly disturbed. No matter what I researched it became apparent that there were barely any available sources that could provide me with unbiased information.

It seemed that almost all online sources sang the praises of each and every opportunity as if each where the best thing since sliced bread. Having experience in online marketing from my previous job experiences I knew the reason all too well.

These online resources were posting with the sole intention of steering myself and others into joining a program or buying a product for a commission. Conducting online research was becoming a frustrating endeavor.

It was after a couple of months in that I decided that I would create an unbiased source for people who may have come across an opportunity that I had and was seeking information that wasn’t readily available. In March of 2014 I created

In 2014 I created 5 blog posts about various online business opportunities. This blog laid idle for close to a year and half before I created one more blog post in July of 2016.

This blog again laid idle for a little over three years as my career provided me with little to no time for sleep let alone for posting. Thankfully in late 2019 the demands of my career lessened. I once again began my search for my next business endeavor and again started creating blog posts.

I’m passionate about entrepreneurship and as passionate about people not getting scammed out of their hard earned money. Although I’m nowhere close to earning a full time income from this blog at this time I enjoy writing about my research and take great pleasure in knowing that people have an unbiased source for the information they seek.

As this blog is about my passions I suggest that you do the same if you’re serious about becoming a blogger.

What Should Your Blog Be About?

Before getting into the blogging platform, domain names, design, marketing, etc., the most important thing to take into consideration is what are you passionate about?

There are many bloggers that don’t earn a single red dime from blogging and it has everything to do with solely blogging for money. What do I mean by this?

If a person isn’t passionate about what he or she is writing about then creating blog posts becomes a losing endeavor. If you don’t enjoy what you’re writing about there is no point in writing at all.

Ask yourself, “What am I passionate about?” I suggest creating a list of your passions and drill down to what you love most.

Can I Monetize My Passion?

Long story short, yes any passion can be monetized. Once you know what your number one passion is and what you’ll be basing your blog around simply conduct an online search.

Are there blogs already based upon your passion? How many blogs? Is it a highly competitive subject? If so, how can you make your blog different?

Different = Niche

My blog here is about reviewing online business opportunities, products and brick and mortar businesses. Are there many blogs based around my content? Yes there are many but my niche is “in depth and unbiased reviews.”

For example, you may be passionate about cars. This is a highly competitive industry but perhaps you love discovering new car customization products. You may be passionate about dogs but a niche can be a specific breed of dog.

No matter what your passion there is always a niche available within that passion. As long as there is a niche within your passions you are on your way. Even if you feel your passion is not shared by many, you’ll be surprised.
